Perhaps not everyone knows that you can install the new release of Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala for architecture "lpia", ie for the increasingly popular netbooks and desktops based on Intel Atom.
To install directly lpia architecture just download the appropriate port of the distribution. I used the version of "alternate", the only image available for architecture lpia. It can be found on the Ubuntu site cdimage in ports.
This is the link to Jaunty 9.04:
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ports/releases/9.04/release/ubuntu-9.04-alternate-lpia.iso
This is the link to Karmic 9.10:

but I've read of several people with my same hardware (Dell Mini 9) that have had problems in the 'Karmic install directly, but instead have happily ugradato Jaunty.
Once installed the standard version of Ubuntu, those interested in switching to Netbook Remix can simply issue the command:
$ sudo apt-get install ubuntu-netbook-remix
